After my last post I was accused of being various incarnations of a hippy liberal/communist. A few years ago I did the political compass test and wanted to see if my results had changed.
The test is designed to chart your political designation on a cartesian plane that would be a better representation than the old fashioned left-right plane.
The compass is defined like this:
With my results being:
Economic Left/Right: -7.25
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.08
Compared to the below lists of famous people. I seem to be very slightly left of Nelson Mandela and almost on par with Ghandi. Some additional analysis shows that most of the world's leaders are in the top right block, designating 'Authoritarian, Right', with most of the world's crazies, and the pope, in the top left, designating 'Authoritarian, Left', then the people who are considered very ethical and have significantly advanced the world (although there are only a few of them) are in the bottom right, designating 'Libertarian Left'. Now I realise this is a generalisation and correlation does not equate cause (for example the Pope's authority is quite different from Mugabe's) it seems an interesting trend.

Political Compass 2006
I was interested to see how much my political views had changed since I last took this test in November 2004. This is also an example of why the signal to noise ratio on blogs is so horrid. Then my results were: Economic Left/Right: -7.25
